This is the mother of all French Grande Randonneè (long distance hiking trails). The trail runs up and down the mountains of Corsica for 170 kilometers cutting the island from Calenzana in the northwest to Conca in the southeast. I spent nine days walking the GR20 in June 2005 and I’d recommend this trek to anybody who is up for some vigorous hiking with incredible scenery and the added touch that when you finish the Corsican beaches are at your feet. There are only a few pieces on the GR20 that take a bit of hiking experience, most notably the famous Cirque de la Solitude, which my hiking partner and I crossed in the rain with near zero visibility making the experience a bit harrowing. The trail is marked the whole way and there are mountain refuges dispersed along the route where you can sleep and eat. |
